Penicuik travelled to Carmuirs Park to take on unbeaten Camelon Juniors and in the second minute, Thomson rose above the home defence to head a corner kick straight into the hands of keeper Gray. Then a free kick to Camelon was curled round the defensive wall but wide of the post. Minutes later, the same player blasted the ball high and wide of the target. In the 25th minute, a driven cross by Forbes was deflected onto the crossbar and out for a corner kick. On the half hour, a flowing move saw a last gasp tackle prevent Viola from scoring. In Penicuik’s next attack, Gray had to rush from goal to nip the ball from Stewart. Just before halftime, following another corner to Penicuik, a powerful strike by Baptie whistled past the keeper’s right hand post.

HALFTIME | Camelon Juniors 0-0 Penicuik Athletic

Ten minutes into the half and a shot from the left wing dipped over the Penicuik crossbar. At the other end, from a Penicuik corner kick Somerville’s glancing header crashed back off the crossbar and was thumped clear. Camelon took the lead in the 62nd minute when MCKENZIE got past Forbes to slot the ball into the far right corner of the net. Two minutes later, Devlin had a chance for Penicuik but his shot was easily dealt with by Gray. Penicuik were now working hard for the equaliser, and had a strong shout for a penalty when Somerville’s shot appeared to strike the hand of a defender as he lay on the ground. Immediately afterwards, Viola weaved his way past two defenders only to be tripped on the edge of the box but the referee was unmoved. In the 84th minute, Devlin set Kateleza free. He crossed the ball into the box and Somerville was inches away from making contact. With only minutes left, Penicuik earned another corner and Young was denied by keeper Gray’s fingertip save.
