The visitors started the game brightly and in the 4th minute, McGachie got round Cunnison to hit a low cross to the front post but Bejaoui was well placed to save. Three minutes later, Hoskins was booked for a wild tackle on Somerville. The first chance fell to Bonnyrigg in the 11th minute, but Kidd’s effort flew high over the bar. Minutes later, along clearance from the Bonnyrigg keeper picked out McLaren, but again the strike on goal flew high over the bar. Bonnyrigg were dominating the play and in the 22nd minute, Young attempted a back header to keeper Bejaoui. However, the ball feel short and was intercepted by TURNER who rounded the keeper to slot the ball into the empty net. From the restart, Penicuik attacked down the right and McCallum’s testing cross into the box flashed inches wide of the far post. Three minutes later, Penicuik had the ball in the back of the net when Montgomery knocked the ball home at the back post off a Somerville cross, but was ruled offside. At the other end another short pass back forced Bejaoui to rush from goal and boot the ball clear. In the 36th minute, a rare well constructed move by Penicuik saw Somerville beat three players and lay the ball off to McCallum, but his well hit shot was deflected straight into the arms of keeper, Grant. Two minutes later, a free kick to Bonnyrigg brought out a top drawer save by Bejaoui. Then a swift break by Bonnyrigg saw four Rose players against two Penicuik defenders. McGachie was set up perfectly, but Bejaoui again came to the rescue with a fine save. Just before half time, a quickly taken free kick to Penicuik found McCallum but his cross into the six yard box was blocked for a corner kick.

HALFTIME | Penicuik Athletic 0-1 Bonnyrigg Rose

In the 49th minute, Gay crossed the ball in from the right wing and McCallum powered a header past Grant only to see the ball hit the base of the post and go over for a goal kick. Penicuik were having their best spell in the game, but were inches away from going two down when Kidd just failed to get on to the end of a dangerous cross. In the 70th minute, a Bonnyrigg free kick was headed back across the goal but the strike on goal went wide of the target. The game changed one minute later when substitute Lister received a straight red card for a dangerous tackle. The visitors took full advantage of the extra man and began to exert strong pressure on the Penicuik defence. In the 81st minute, things went from bad to worse for Penicuik when Ross, who was booked earlier, received a second caution and an early bath. Four minutes later, the pressure told when substitute Thomson ripped apart the Penicuik defence to set up McGACHIE who scored from close range. One minute later, THOMSON finished off the move that put the game to bed. Bonnyrigg comfortably cruised through the remainder of the game retaining possession and passing the ball around all the space they had in the pitch. Without a doubt, any chance Penicuik had of getting anything from the game was disappeared through the lack of discipline.
