After an impeccably well observed minutes silence prior to kick off for Penicuik Football Community stalwart Rory Wood who passed away last week Penicuik opened brightly with manager Meikle making one change with Lister replacing Devlin. The first chance came Penicuik’s way after 12 minutes as Lough latched onto a superb Jancyzk pass as he raced into the box but Whitehead was alert to the danger and cleared to safety. Two minutes later a Cunnison pass found McCallum clear in the box but his shot across goal went past the far post as the visitors finally got on the attack and had long range shots from Schiavone and McManus saved comfortably by Bejaoui. Midway through the half Jancyzk broke up a Saints attack on the edge of his own box, made progress to the centre circle and his pass found Somervile in space wide right; Somerville drove into the box but his shot was blocked by Bruce for a corner. The visitors were proving dangerous on the break and with 24 minutes gone Schiavone drove forward from the half way line and fed Holden on the left hand side of the home box but Bejaoui produced a fine stop to thwart the danger. The home side broke the deadlock with 26 minutes on the clock as a Dougie CUNNISON cross from the left eluded everyone and ended up in the net past a bewildered Bruce in the Saints goal. From the restart the home side were on the attack again with McCallum breaking down the left only to see his cross headed over by the onrushing Barr. Play was flowing from end to end and on the half hour Bruce was dispossessed by McInnes on the edge of his box, who passed to Sibanda but his shot from 25 yards went past the post. A couple of minures later a Lister ball across the six yard box eluded everyone and was put behind for a corner to be followed a minute later by a Somerville effort from the edge of the box which went wide. The half ended with Thomson suffering an injury and being replaced by Dobie for the visitors.

HALFTIME | Penicuik Athletic 1-0 St Andrews United

The first chances of the second half fell to the home side with Bruce saving at close range from Ross two minutes into the half. On the 55th minute White strolled forward from the half way line and let loose from 35 yards and his effort went narrowly past the post with Bruce scrambling across his goal. The Saints responded by going up back up the park through a driving run by Schiavone who set up Dobie but his shot went wide of the upright. The visitors were enjoying their best spell of the game and a McManus free kick in the 63rd minute was met superbly by Sibanda but Bejaoui pulled off a great save to touch the ball over the bar. With 79 minutes gone Ryan MCCALLUM made it two when he picked up a loose ball wide out on the right, drove inside and shrugged aside the challenge of Whitehead before firing home from the edge of the box. McCALLUM added his second five minutes later as good build up play from Somerville and Ross set him up with a chance eight yards out and he slotted home past the helpless Bruce. Penicuik finished the scoring a minute later when a Jancyzk pass found Barr in space in the box and although he was stopped by Dobie the ball broke to substitute Sean PATTERSON to head home number four.
