Penicuik finally ended their losing streak with a hard earned 1-2 victory at St Andrews. The first quarter of an hour was evenly contested with St Andrews just ahead in terms of possession, and it was the home side that came close in the 18th minute but Bejaoui was alert to turn away a powerful strike and Lister cleared. In the 22nd minute, a corner to Penicuik saw Clarkson beaten but the ball hit the top of the bar. One minute later, Penicuik took the lead when Young headed down a Yancyzk free kick and SOMERVILLE pounced to slide the ball home. Both defences were on top and few chances were being created. However, in the 40th minute, Liddell came close with a glancing header for Penicuik. One minute later a high ball by Young saw keeper Clarkson do well under strong pressure from McCallum.

HALFTIME | St Andrews United 0-1 Penicuik Athletic

In the opening minute of the second half, St Andrews were awarded a free kick just outside Penicuik’s penalty area, but the free kick was blasted high over the bar. In the 51st minute, Sibanda broke free from the Penicuik defence, but White recovered well to save the day. Three minutes later it was Murdoch who came to the rescue for the home side to clear the ball for a corner and deny McCallum. From the corner, keeper Clarkson pulled off two great saves before the danger was cleared. Immediately afterwards, Somerville’s glancing header was well saved by Clarkson. Then the St Andrews fans sighed with relief when a header off a corner beat keeper Clarkson, but was headed off the line. The home side equalised in the 65th minute when WEDDERBURN headed home a deep corner kick. However, Penicuik bounced back in the 82nd minute when WHITE was on hand to knock the ball home from close range. Into injury time and St Andrews almost got the equaliser. The ball was bouncing about loose in the Penicuik penalty box and only desperate defending Penicuik prevented the goal.
