The first ten minutes of the game were evenly matched but the first chance fell to the home side when Harris set up Barr but his shot was saved by Hutchison at the second attempt. Five minutes later a free kick to Dundee was delivered to the back post where Gibb headed the ball back across goal, but the shot went miles wide of the target. In the 18th minute, a high ball out of defence by Dundee caught out Cunnison leaving Robertson only Bejaoui to beat, but the big keeper spread himself well to block his shot. Penicuik took the lead two minutes later when McCALLUM slotted home a penalty kick, sending Hutchison the wrong way. Then in the 24th minute, McDermott sent over a pinpoint corner kick to pick out YOUNG who rose above the defence to head the ball downwards and into the back of the net. Immediately afterwards, a driving run by Harris set up Patterson, but his shot was deflected inches past the post. In the 34th minute, a Kerr free kick was headed out to the edge of the box by Gibb from where Barr struck for goal, but Hutchison was well placed to save. At the other end, Gibb's glancing header off a free kick went a yard wide of the upright. Bejaoui was brought into action minutes later saving a long range strike at the second attempt. Just before half time Barr set up Harris only to see his powerful strike whistle inches past the post.

HALFTIME | Penicuik Athletic 2-0 Dundee Violet

It took Penicuik two minutes to increase their lead when McCallum shrugged off his marker, got to the bye line and crossed the ball along the six yard box. PATTERSON slid in to tuck the ball into the far corner of the net. In the 49th minute, Duell went on a driving run into the Penicuik penalty box and went down like a sack of potatoes. Referee McLean showed a yellow card for simulation and seconds later a straight red card for a second misdemeanour. One minute later, Dundee Violet's discipline disintegrated and Middleton received a second yellow card for a late foul on McPartlin. It took players from both sides to calm the player down and see him off the pitch. In the 50th minute, a defence splitting pass picked out O'Connor who drove in on goal, but a last gasp tackle by Cunnison cleared the danger for Penicuik. On the hour mark, some nifty footwork saw Harris beat two defenders to set up Barr. His strike was deflected high into the air and keeper Hutchison got a fingertip to the ball to push it on to the crossbar. However, PATTERSON, following up, had the easiest of tasks to head the rebound home. In the 73rd minute, keeper Hutchison was well placed to save a first time volley by McPartlin. In the 88th minute, a flowing passing move by Penicuik culminated with a cross into the penalty box where Knight controlled the ball on his chest and then produced an acrobatic overhead kick that beat Hutchison but hit the bar and went over for a goal kick.
