Ryan Baptie leaves Penicuik

We can confirm that Ryan Baptie has departed Penicuik Athletic after nine seasons, 178 appearances, 17 goals and 50 clean sheets, as he joins Whitehill Welfare.

Ryan joined the Cuikie at the beginning of season 2017/18 but an unfortunate leg break in the final preseason friendly ruled him out until January, when he marked his debut with a crucial goal in a 3-1 win over Dundonald Bluebell. Whilst he recovered fitness, he had a brief loan spell at Haddington Athletic but returned to help contribute to the East of Scotland Cup win, with an assist in the Semi Final win over Dundonald.

Season 2018/19 was much more positive as Ryan more than played his part in the East of Scotland Conference A win, contributing two goals and twenty assists, including a goal of the season winner against Musselburgh Athletic.

The ultimately curtailed 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons saw Ryan start every game of the memorable Scottish Cup run, with his corner being turned in for an own goal in the 3-0 win over Stenhousemuir.

The 2021/22 Premier Division title challenge was helped by Ryan's five goals, his best total in a Penicuik shirt, and another ten assists.

Unfortunately injuries would plague the latter few seasons of Ryan's time at Montgomery Park, with Baptie spending some time as a coach during that time, and his final appearance came against Dunipace in October.

Everyone at Penicuik Athletic wishes you all the very best in your future, Ryan. You will always be welcome at Montgomery Park.

Thank you Ryan.
