Despite the terrible weather conditions, Penicuik travelled the short distance to Albyn Park for the first time in two years to play Broxburn in their eleventh league match of the season. Broxburn almost took the lead in the 3rd minute but Baptie came to the rescue hooking the ball off the goal line. Five minutes later, Miller headed over off a corner kick. Then keeper Watt did well to hold a powerful shot. Just after the half hour, Connolly robbed Scott and tried to lob Donoghue from forty yards, but the keeper got back to gather. Two minutes later, it was Watt who had to be alert to tip over a Scott cross. In the final minutes of the half a flurry of action saw Connolly win possession on the right, drive in on goal but his effort went wide. One minute later, an excellent Penicuik counter attack saw Somerville chest the ball down to McCrory-Irving but his shot went wide of the target. Right on half time, Stevenson came close forcing and excellent save from Donoghue.
HALFTIME | Broxburn Athletic 0-0 Penicuik Athletic
One minute into the half and Stewart created the first chance, crossing the ball into the box for Somerville, but he headed just wide of the post. Immediately afterwards, Tansey headed narrowly wide off a corner kick. Then in the 51st minute Broxburn took the lead when Locke rolled a short free kick to Craig SCOTT who rifled a low shot past Watt from 30 yards‬. At the other end a Baptie free kick was well held by Donoghue. Then a Watson long range effort was deflected into the arms of Donoghue. Penicuik got the equaliser their play deserved when STEVENSON’s corner kick eluded everyone and ended up in the Broxburn net. Penicuik were now piling on the pressure and in the 69th minute, Somerville saw his header deflected over the bar. In the 76th minute, a Stewart cross was partially cleared as far as McCrory-Irving who beat his man but struck his shot wide of the target. Then a long distance Baptie strike flashed narrowly past the post. With pressure building, a Stevenson free kick was well saved by Donoghue. However the Cuikie were not to be denied and in the 87th minute, Kateleza and Jones carved open the home defence for SOMERVILLE to squeeze home the winner.
