Penicuik got off to the best start possible opening the scoring in the 2nd minute when Keith Lough headed on a Hume clearance to Aaron SOMERVILLE who outpaced Drummond to slot home. One minute later, Penicuik sighed with relief as a Lawrie strike hit the side netting. With Dundonald pressing hard, Bald pulled off a great save and then tipped the ball away off the crossbar before the danger was cleared. In the 24th minute, Meikle came close with a shot that went inches wide of the base of the post. Then a corner kick to the Bell brought out another great save by Bald when he turned a shot round the post. However, Penicuik doubled their lead in the 33rd minute when Lough’s attempted header off a JANCZYK free kick deceived keeper Lennox. Shortly afterwards, a fine move up the left wing culminated with a powerful strike by Lawrie, but keeper Bald beat the ball away.

HALFTIME | Dundonald Bluebell 0-2 Penicuik Athletic

Dundonald’s half time team talk obviously worked because the home side came out with all guns firing and in the 54th minute burly striker QUINN slotted home from close range. The Bell now had their tails up and had the ball in the net two minutes later, but referee Clarke had already blown for a free kick to Penicuik. However, the home side were not to be denied and in the 64th minute a powerfully struck free kick by LAWRIE levelled the score. Ten minutes later, Dundonald should have taken the lead but Lawrie dragged his shot just wide of the far post. In the 75th minute, following an inspired managerial substitution, Stephen SCOTT nipped in ahead of keeper Lennox to grab his first goal since signing for Penicuik. Then in the 84th minute a corner to Penicuik saw Somerville at the front post head the ball high in the air and YOUNG out jumped the defence to head home. At the other end, keeper Bald pulled off an instinctive save to deny Lawrie. Sadly Lawrie sustained a bad knee injury and had to be stretchered off. Into added on time and a clever reverse pass by Scott set Sproule free who cut the ball back to SOMERVILLE who side footed the ball into the empty net.
