The opening minutes were all Bo’ness and in the 7th minute an attack up the right wing saw Keast send over a dangerous low cross across the six yard box, but fortunately for Penicuik there were no takers for the visitors. Five minutes later, Bo’ness attacked up the left wing with pace but keeper Easton was alert to the danger and turned the ball away for a corner kick. At the other end a defence splitting pass set up S Scott who got the ball before Murphy, but the keeper managed to grab the ball off the striker’s feet. Then a Penicuik free kick was well blocked by the Bo’ness defensive wall. Play was switching from end to end and Bo’ness came close with a powerful strike that went inches wide of the target. In the 29th minute, a quickly taken Penicuik free kick picked out Connolly on the right and his cross was headed down by Scott but blocked by Gemmell for a corner kick. Penicuik took the lead in the 34th minute, when McCallum’s defence splitting pass picked out S SCOTT who rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into the empty net. Into injury time and Penicuik almost doubled their lead when a Jancyzk free kick was cleared off the line by Hunter.

Two minutes into the half and keeper was brought into action cutting out a dangerous low cross. Then great determination by Noble was rewarded with success and after winning three tackles he fed the ball out to Montgomery on the left. He crossed the ball into the box where McCallum saw his shot blocked and the rebound turned away for a corner by keeper Murphy. Bo’ness equalised in the 52nd minute when Sloan cut across the eighteen yard box, back heeled the ball to WRIGHT who slammed the ball home from close range. Minutes later, the visitors had a great chance to take the lead, but Strickland blasted the ball high over the bar. In the 59th minute, an excellent move by Penicuik saw Montgomery denied by keeper Murphy when he tipped the winger’s powerful shot over the bar. From the corner, Hume’s header went narrowly past the upright. Then in the 65th minute, McDonald cleared a Bo’ness header off the line. Five minutes later, Barr drove his way through the Bo’ness defence only to be checked at the last minute. The ball fell to Jancyzk outside the box, but his effort flew high over the crossbar. Minutes later, there was panic in the Penicuik penalty area when the ball was bouncing around like a ping pong ball until a Penicuik boot cleared the danger. In the 75th minute, a quickly taken Penicuik free kick by Jancyzk picked out Barr but superb strike went inches wide of the goal. In the 88th minute, Penicuik’s Noble received a red card for what appeared to be for pushing Gemmell to the ground. Then in the 93rd minute Bo’ness were awarded a penalty kick. However keeper Easton pulled off a tremendous save to deny Sloan.
