The opening quarter of an hour saw both teams evenly matched, however then first chance fell to Penicuik when McDermott got round the back of the Dundee defence to cross the ball to the back post where McPartlin got his head to the ball, but his effort went straight into the arms of Easton. Two minutes later, another surging run by McDermott ended with a shot that went wide of the target. In the 21st minute, Dundee's MacLeod had a chance but struck his shot wide of goal. Five minutes later, a flowing move by Penicuik saw the ball laid into the path of Harris, but a last gasp tackle forced his shot inches wide of the post. At the other end, a great chance fell to Gowans, but he blasted the ball high over the bar. In the 32nd minute, Patterson wriggled his way through the Dundee defence and cut the ball back across the box, but there were no takers for Penicuik. The visitors took the lead in the 37th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick that was comfortably converted by McCOMISKIE. However it only took Penicuik to equalise when, with the Dundee defence under siege, McCallum chipped the ball to PATTERSON who slammed the ball home.

HALFTIME | Penicuik Athletic 1-1 Dundee North End

From the restart, Dundee upped the pace of their game and McComiskie came close with a right foot strike. Then a free kick to Dundee flew high over the crossbar. Penicuik weathered the early pressure and in the 57th minute McCallum picked out substitute KNIGHT who, with his first touch slotted the ball past Easton into the bottom corner of the net. Dundee then had two consecutive corner kicks, the second of which saw McNaughton have a free header but his effort went a yard wide of the post. In the 62nd minute, Patterson set up KNIGHT who ghosted past his marker and smashed the ball past Easton to make the score 3-1. Shortly afterwards, a rapier like move down the right by Penicuik saw Cuunison's strike blocked for a corner kick. In the 72nd minute, Patterson had a great chance, but his first strike was brilliantly blocked by keeper Easton and the rebound went inches wide of the upright. Ten minutes later, Knight set McCallum free. He cut left across the box before shooting for goal only to see his effort go narrowly past Easton's left hand post. The visitor's pulled one back in the first minute of injury time when they were again awarded a penalty kick. McCOMISKIE again competently despatched the spot kick. However, Penicuik were not finished and a slick move down the left saw McCallum lay the ball off to BARR. His first strike was blocked by Easton, but then he had the easiest of tasks to slot the ball home into the empty net. Unfortunately a good game of football was tarnished just before the final whistle with a nasty off the ball incident that the referee did not see that incensed not only the spectators, but the Penicuik players Eventually, order was restored, two players booked and the final whistle blown.
