Penicuik started brightly applying pressure to the visitors defence, but it took until the 13th minute before the first goal arrived. An attack up the left wing saw McCallum send over an inch perfect cross and LOUGH rose above the defence to power home a header past Grier. Four minutes later Coogans for the visitors set up Richford but his weak effort went well wide of the target. In the 18th minute a neat move by Penicuik up the right saw Forbes’s cross dummied by McCallum, but Lough just failed to control the ball and the danger was cleared. In their next attack, left back Noble fired in a thirty yard strike that keeper Grier got down well to save. Three minutes later, a long clearance by the Penicuik trialist keeper was headed on by McCallum and Sproule nipped in to chip the ball over the keeper, but Fallon was there to clear the ball for a corner. At the other end a Coogans effort was cleared off the line by Inglis and the return strike was tipped over the bar by the keeper. In the 35th minute a coming together with Barr and Bryne ended up with a stramash and Jancyzk and Fallon booked. In the 39th minute a great pass by Jancyzk picked out Lough on the right but his first time cross was just missed by McCallum. The visitors were having their best spell of the game and Coogans came close after some sustained pressure. However, in the 44th minute, another Jancyzk pass beat centre half Wilson and Lough shot for goal. Keeper Grier pulled off an excellent save but MONTGOMERY, following up stroked the ball into the empty net.

HALFTIME | Penicuik Athletic 2-0 Fauldhouse United

Straight from the restart, a devastating four minute spell saw Penicuik rattle in three goals. The first came in the 48th minute when a superb diagonal pass by Young picked out McCALLUM who blasted the ball past Grier. Two minutes later, a strong run and cross by Barr picked out FORBES on the edge of the box from where his first time volley beat keeper Grier all ends up. In the 52nd minute it was 5-0 when Lough set up MONTGOMERY who stayed cool to slot home from the corner of the six yard box. That was a four minute display of superb controlled football that finished off Fauldhouse. IN the 56th minute Grier beat away a powerful McCallum strike. Then following a free kick to Fauldhouse a long range strike was tipped over the bar by Penicuik’s trialist keeper. From the corner, Fauldhouse were unlucky not to pull a goal back, but fine defending by Sproule saw him clear the ball off the line. Immediately afterwards, Penicuik had the keeper to thank again when, once more he tipped a long range strike over the bar. In the 69th minute, McCallum’s effort off a corner kick went a wide yard of the upright. Four minutes later, substitute Scott’s reverse pass set up McCALLUM and he coolly slotted home for his second and Penicuik’s sixth goal. In the 77th minute, Fauldhouse were awarded a penalty and it was competently converted by COOGANS. Minutes later Fauldhouse had the ball in the back of the net again but the goal was ruled offside. The last action of the game saw a McCall’s header from a corner kick crash back off the crossbar and cleared.
